Just for the record...

{I posted this on my personal blog and felt the need to post here too.. so for those of you who are reading this twice, I beg for your pardon}

Just for the record.. don't ever attempt to form shapes out of rice krispie treats and pack them together while they are still warm. Unless you are going for a petrified dinosaur egg...  because they come out as hard as rocks.

I attempted to be all crafty for Easter and make rice krispie treats in the form of eggs. The next day we found ourselves with a basket of those petrified dino eggs- which were not edible- so we used them for can crushers then tossed them away.

Easter Egg garland

I came home with empty Easter eggs from the store the other day. They were too colorful and cute not to put them on display so instead of leaving them in the bag we ended up with this until Easter morning (when they'll be coming down to be stuffed and hidden)...

I'm all about easy and this is definitely easy.
If you know how to tie a knot then this craft is for you.

You'll need:
-plastic eggs
-colorful bakers twine (or any string)
-tulle

-Cut your twine to your desired length of the garland.
-Cut strips of tulle, enough for two pieces in between each egg. I cut 50 4"x2" strips and my garland measures about 9 feet when hung (including swags).
-Place the string across the center of an egg and clamp shut.
-Clamp all eggs on twine then tie two strips of tulle in between each egg.
That's it!

Happy egg hanging!!

Easy peasy DIY rabbit ears

Easter is coming!!! Whether you're ready or not. I got ready with this easy DIY by martha. All you need is felt, a headband and a hot glue gun.
Normally my daughter doesn't like headbands, but with a little bribing and some candy (as you can see in her mouth), she posed for me.

Chalkboard painted Easter Eggs

I found some wooden eggs at a local craft store and covered them in chocolate brown chalkboard paint. And they have kept my 2 year old entertained all day long (well, at least for a good hour). They look great plain too... like chocolate eggs.

Simple to make- just get yourself some chalkboard paint (it comes in all colors, just like egg dying) and some wooden eggs. Cover them in about 3 coats of paint, let dry, cover the egg in chalk then wipe clean for sealing.

If you don't want to do the work I put up a few in the shop here.

PEEPS!

I am expecting our third child in about 7 months and all the little guy wants me to eat are Peeps. Seriously, I crave them all the time. So... I thought I'd leave some tasty marshmallow treats for you to drool over for the weekend.
Peep, peep.

Easter garland made from paint chips

I just realized it has been a few days since I last posted. Sorry. I'm up to my head in making party accessories for the upcoming craft fair. It should be a fun weekend.

In the meantime here is a neat DIY link...
If you are one of those people with extra paint chips around the house, then this is the project for you.... super easy and perfect for Easter.

Chalkboard Eggs

I spotted this chalkboard ostrich Easter egg at the Red Thread
It comes to you empty, center blown out, and nestled in a handmade nest. Sounds great! and something that can last forever.

Has anyone tried it on regular hard boiled eggs?
I'm tempted to try them this week, just in case it doesn't work- then I won't bother during Easter time.

Gable Boxes

Just to let it be known on the bloggety blog here that gable boxes are available at ::Party Accessories::.

They are great for packing snacks, lunches for parties, and any other favor or decoration.

I have used them for packing lunches at kids birthday parties and also for take home play-dough kits.
They were adorable.

Happy Easter Weekend... now what to do with all those boiled eggs??

While making 3 dozen hard boiled eggs to dye over this weekend, the leftovers can be overwhelming. Here are a few ideas on what to do with them afterwards:

DIY cupcake toppers and Easter plans

My 20 month old daughter has been facinated with our stash of plastic easter eggs for a week already and loves to play "find the Easter Egg" in the house. So this year for Easter should be really fun for her and fun for us to watch. It's good to see how excited kids get about things like that.

Now that she understands things a little better, I get really excited for holidays like this. For Easter I'm planning on making a note that says "follow the trail"with a string that goes throughout the house and outside and eventually leads to her Easter basket. Got the idea here. We'll also have a late lunch, eat candy, hide and dye plenty of eggs, and enjoy the special day together with family.

We'll be making cupcakes as well so I made some toppers for us and anyone to copy and print.
Hopefully they will be able to print out ok for you.

Easter decor

Yarn Eggs

Family Fun (one of my favorite magazines-inspired by my sister) has an easy tutorial on how to make yarn eggs. We made these while growing up as kids and I still get "egg"cited to make them now (sorry I just had to add the "egg").

Jelly beans!

For me, jelly beans are the best thing to eat around Easter time.
I even LOVE the black ones! Of course the Jelly Belly brand is my all time favorite.

Take a look at these cute jelly bean cookies! We'll be making these come Easter in our home. You can get the recipe and free box download here

My new favorite colors for spring

I'm in love with these color combinations for spring time. Here in Hawaii spring doesn't mean good-bye winter weather, hello warmer weather... because it's always warm here... to me it mainly reminds me of EASTER! So these are the colors floating in my head for Easter time:

aqua blue, tangerine orange, and yellow.
{hence the colors for the main blog setup}
